In der Folge überholte er Fritz und gab Geiger 6,6 Sekunden Vorsprung auf Fabio Obermeyr mit auf die letzten fünf Kilometer. Kurz vor Ende lagen beide gleichauf, dann setzte Geiger am letzten Berg die entscheidende Attacke und sprintete zu Gold. Während Österreich über Silber jubelt, geht für Norwegen um Jarl Magnus Riiber (27) nach WM-Gold 2019, 2021 und 2023 eine famose Serie zu Ende, für sie blieb nur Rang 3.
