Was war passiert? Bei einer privaten Feier hatte Scholz zunächst mit BILD-Vize Paul Ronzheimer über das gemeinsame Abstimmungsverhalten von Union und AfD im Bundestag diskutiert. Als es dann um eine mögliche Zusammenarbeit der CDU mit der AfD ging, schaltete sich Joe Chialo ein. Daraufhin bezeichnete Scholz den Politiker als „Hofnarr“ seiner Partei. Weil der Vorwurf des Rassismus im Raum stand (Chialos Eltern stammen aus Tansania) machte später der ebenfalls anwesende „Focus“-Chefredakteur Georg Meck den Kanzler-Spruch öffentlich. Scholz gab später zu, den Berliner Politiker tatsächlich so bezeichnet zu haben – wies aber den Rassismus-Vorwurf weit von sich. Demnach kann bestraft werden, wer eine „im politischen Leben des Volkes stehende Person“ öffentlich beleidigt. Bei Verurteilung drohen bis zu drei Jahre Knast oder eine Geldstrafe.
